Bio

"I cannot imagine my life without glass and its mouth-watering colors. Glass is very much a part of who I am. I still have the glass marbles from my youth and am not surprised that glass is a major part of my life today."

Lisa Woodard, owner of Glass Choices Studio since 2002,has been involved with glasswork for many years. Through experimentation, self-teaching and study with renowned glass artists, Lisa has developed a unique niche in the glass artistry business.

Lisa is best known for functional and ornamental glass pieces in cold, and fused glass art. While she works to shape glass, with texture and form, Lisa also strongly believes that the final glass choice has to do with its properties at the different stages of the kiln's heat.

It is with this free style that Lisa feels to be one with the glass and continues to grow and evolve as a professional glass artist. A wide variety of Lisa's work has been exhibited and sold in local galleries and specialty shops throughout southeastern Florida. Lisa's commissioned pieces range from decorative glass vessel sinks for yachts and homes to exquisite large bowls and dinnerware sets. Whimsical objects such as her hanging Fun Fish are also well-loved creations.

Lisa's career has included work as a glass artist and as an instructor in stained glass.

For Lisa, the world of art and glass artistry are a natural fit. As part of a military family, Lisa traveled and lived in dessert, mountain and ocean environments in the U.S. and abroad. Lisa has a love of gardening that began with her work in a landscape nusery. Lisa's work and travel experiences are reflected in the natural quality of color and texture in her glasswork.

Born in Trinidad, Lisa attended the University of Arizona, majoring in Design and Gymnastics. Lisa and her husband, Mark, settled in Port Saint Lucie, Florida in 1987. Today Lisa works at her home studio with her two coon cats, Ana and Koji close-by. Her three grown children, Jesse, Aaron and Lorraine, live nearby and come to visit Glass Choices Studio often.

Artist Statement

I was first attracted to glass because of the beauty with the reflection and refraction of light.
After working with glass in its cold form for ten years I knew it was time for more of a challenge
and to explore this wonderful material and all it has to offer.

Inspiration comes from everywhere. You could say I think and see in glass. I have always liked to work with my hands and glass gives me the opportunity to do that and express myself also.
The possibilities with glass are endless in form, color, texture, design and dimension. I will never tire
with the fascination glass gives me.

Glass is neither a solid or a liquid. This gives me the challenge to direct the glass with heat and get results that are a mixture of me and the glass.

I have always done one of a kind pieces.I started out working in functional glass objects which I still do today along with a few series of art that are distinctly different.
